Just Me and My Dad

Two important things happened in Angels' baseball last week.

John Lackey came off the disabled list.

And my dad and I attended our first Angels' game of the season.

Ok so they were on the same day. But that made it all the more exciting. I took the train from San Diego and met my dad at the stadium an hour before the game against the White Sox.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the evening was before the game itself, that is when I saw AJ Pierzynski mere feet away from me near the bullpen. Instinctually I started booing. I saw the name on the back of his jersey and started booing without even thinking about it, which prompted the rest of the people near the bullpen to boo also. The funniest part of all of this was that the coach who was playing catch with AJ started laughing along with us.

I proceeded to tell AJ that he was a cheater, and part of a tradition which put shame on the game of baseball. At which point he looked at me and shrugged. He was legitamately bothered by what I said. And honestly, after what he did in the 2005 Championship Series, I'm glad.

Lackey pitched a great game. Seven innings with one earned run (that really shouldn't have been earned). And it was great to see him back on the mound.

Now it really feels like baseball season.

I'd hardly call it cheating. I think you're blaming the wrong guy for '05...
